great personality, great treatment
Very comfortable and informative, lasered a leg vein that was causing some pain and slowed minor scrapes from healing. 100% effective – all good now.
FANTASTIC SURGEON AND FRIENDLY CARING PERSONALITY
Great surgeon, had right carotid artery extremely narrowed. I was very worried and scared. Dr. Rayan made me feel less anxious. He did a great job and everything healed quickly. I asked many of my personal MD’s who they would recommend, he always came up on top of the list. He also has a very friendly caring personality, which is very important to me.
Explains things thoroughly with as much time as you need
Doc and staff are very kind and helpful. The web portal is very helpful. The doctor explains different types of treatment, procedures and surgical options in as much detail as you need to understand. I would have rate him one of the better doctors that I have. Being in the Scripps network is very helpful as every doc can seeing the others notes, procedures and test/radiology reports others have known. Because of Coronavirus some tests, procedures and surgery have been preserved but they are ready to start kick it into high gear when the all clear is given as they are working on authorizations and CT/MRIs now
The Best Vascular Surgeon
I have been going to Dr. Rayan for several years and he is the BEST! He has treated my deep varicose leg veins as well as my spider veins multiple times without causing any pain or suffering. He has a wonderful bedside manner and he is excellent at what he does. His staff is always so positive and supporting. They work with the insurance companies to help you get the treatment you need. I will continue to go to Dr. Rayan whenever I need him and I will recommend him to all of my friends and relatives.
Saved my life
Dr Rayan is an outstanding doctor. He has a great presence about him and doesn’t sugarcoat things. I trust him unconditionally and anyone that has come with me to appts are very taken with him. I actually do owe him my life since he came to the emergency room to handle my blocked iliac artery
My Left Carotid Artery Stent procedure (TCAR)
On January 23, 2020, Dr. Rayan and his team performed a TCAR procedure on my left Carotid artery at Scripps La Jolla Hospital. The surgery went as he described it would go and he and his team performed professionally, with great care shown as to my well being. I can’t express how much I appreciated the way I was treated during this event. I would definitely recommend Dr. Rayan to anyone contemplating such a surgery!
The receptionists were very friendly. I was also helped by a gentleman who used this gel and machine to see my veins. He was very friendly and professional. The only thing that i wish was different was the time spent with the Dr. we waited for him for several minutes, which is Ok , but when he came in everything was fast the consult and everything. I felt like he was in a hurry. I understand i cant have him for a long time but i felt like i had more questions to ask and felt hurried. To be completely honest i was pretty upset when a couple weeks later I see what Doctors office Charged my Insurance for that visit.
Response from Sunil Rayan M.D.
Thank you for the comments. Although we are busy, we try and make sure that each and every patient gets the attention they deserve. Definitely something we can improve in the future.
Three visits over a 10yr time period–
Over 10yrs ago on a visit to San Diego I had a DVT attack requiring emergency room treatment. The ER recommended I contact Dr. Rayan on whether I could fly back home. His office arranged an emergency visit. He was most solicitous and provided very professional and caring information to me. Returning to San Diego to live a few years later, my physician recommended that I discontinue my DVT medication–warfarin. My cardiologist disagreed so I returned to Dr Rayan who agreed with my physician. I went on baby-aspirin and blood thinning supplements. Six years later, my new physician and ER doctor tried to put me back on DVT prescription drugs. So once again, I visited Dr. Rayan who examined the ultrasound records and listened to how I was treating my DVT condition. He determined that the ultrasound scans were showing my old blockages. And, he felt that my supplement treatment with my warning signs of problems made me quite safe. I have escaped the side effects of the prescription drugs plus obtaining additional benefits of my supplement beyond blood thinning.
I can NOT say enough on how fortunate I feel in having Dr. Sunil Rayan as my vascular surgeon. It is difficult these days to find doctors who listen and have the competence to be open minded about non-tradition treatment. I wish I could have him as my primary care physician, but understand that he is too valuable in his current area of specialization. I am just so thankful that he has time to see me when I am in great need of his services. Mike an 80yr old submarine veteran of 5 Cold War Polaris strategic missile patrols.
Dr. Rayan saved my life!
In the fall of 2018, I was diagnosed as having a partial blockage in one of my carotid arteries (behind my left ear). My MD referred me to Dr. Rayan, whose nurse conducted an ultra-sound in his office.
Dr. Rayan discussed the results with me, saying that he didn’t see a problem, considering that it was only 60% blocked — and the other three were completely clear. But he suggested that I see a cardiologist, saying that when there is plaque build-up in any artery, we needed to see how my heart was doing.
THIS SAVED MY LIFE!
An angiogram revealed that I had FIVE coronary arteries that were severely blocked. (I thought that my fatigue and tightness in my chest were simply the result of being 67 years old and 60 lbs. over-weight).
The day before I was to meet with my prospective surgeon, I started having chest pain and shortness of breath. I had an emergency quintuple by-pass two days later, before I had suffered a heart-attack or any other permanent damage.
This was all due to Dr. Rayan’s insightful – and life-saving — suggestion.
We first met Dr. Rayan when I needed to have an emergency surgery. After first checking, we found that he was highly recommended by other surgeons in the Scripps system. He is immediately pleasant, welcoming questions, and very skilled. Since then, I have had two more surgeries performed by Dr. Rayan, which has only increased my high regard for him.
Best varicose vein doctor!!!
I went to Dr. Rayan a few years ago for the first time, my legs in the back had so many varicose veins I thought it would take me several painful visits to try to clean it up. To my surprise Dr. Rayan was able to take care of all of them in just two visits. I followed all his post care recommendations and my legs look great not a single vein in sight 🙂 I only wish I had gone to him sooner so I my legs would have looked better a decade ago. I highly recommend him, he is professional, honest and a great doctor.
Great skill and “bedside” manner
Dr. Rayan removed an over 90% blockage in my left carotid artery. The surgery incision location is hardly noticeable a few months after healing. He was very knowledgeable and explained things in easy to understand layman terms. I highly recommend him.
Dr. Rayan’s approach to patient care overexceeded my expectation. I was referred for a second opinion and he treated me with respect, listened to my concerns without prejudice, ensured my understanding of his recommendations and asked if I had any questions. It is hard to find a doctor who is down to earth and allows you to express your concerns without being interrupted or judged. He is passionate to the core and right away you sense that you are in good hands. I’m grateful that I was referred for a second opinion because he brought clarity and found a resolution to a circulatory condition that has caussed me so much pain and immobility. I highly recommend Dr.Rayan to anyone who is seeking a decent, highly educated and trustworthy physician.
I would highly recommend Dr. Rayan as a Surgeon. He operated on me several years ago and I would use him again if I had to. The office staff was very polite and professional.
Dr. Rayan’s excellent surgical demeanor.
Dr. Rayan conveys an optimistic professional attitude that I have only occasionally seen in my frequent dealing with surgeons during my 40+ years of practice as a surgical pathologist. He clearly and concisely explains what needs to be done without rush or abruptness. I and my wife have both been his patients and his attention to pre-op and post -op care could not have been better. I think surgical residents would really benefit from spending some time under Dr.Rayan’s direction.
The entire staff is very caring and attentive. Dr. Rayan is always right on time and makes sure to answer all of my questions. A great team!
Saved My Life
Almost a year ago my son took me to Scripps ER as I thought I was having a retina detach. It was my good fortune that Dr. Rayan was on duty and was able to determine I had a 90% blockage of the carotid artery. Before surgery the following day he explained the procedure and answered all of my questions and concerns. I found Dr Rayan to be a caring and intelligent surgeon.
Dr. Rayan is an Excellent Physician
I completely trust Dr Rayan w/ my arterial health. He has always addressed my concerns, and explains things clearly to me .
Dr. Rayan helped me after 4 yrs of going to different doctors to find out why I had tightness in my buttocks’ and upper thigh.
He ordered a CT scan with dye and seen immediately blockage in a blood vessel. He did surgery put in stent and was able to walk without pain
immediately. Can’t believe I suffered four years with all the other doctors.
Great medical experience
Dr Rayan has treated me on two surgeries Once for varicose veins and once for carotid artery blockage. Great doctor
